Mitragyna Speciosa (1kg) from Malaysia - extremely energizing and relaxing at the same time :)

Kratom is also known as Kakuam, Ithang or Mambog depending on the growing region. The leaves of the kratom tree, which is native to South-East Asia, are used in their regions of origin with effects similar to coffee or nicotine.

While kratom was traditionally consumed by men to boost productivity, women regarded it more as a home remedy with great potential. This member of the Rubiaceae family thus proves to be an all-rounder that even contributes to a positive eco-social balance :)

kratom blüte

Several rainforests are already bordered by kratom plantations, which have proven to be a successful solution for both the local inhabitants and the ecosystem. The balance created between fair income and the preservation of flora and fauna provides an important building block in terms of sustainability. If people could not earn their living by cultivating the plantations, they would be forced to grow palm oil. Kratom cultivation therefore provides financial security and protects the forests from deforestation.

Kratom thrives particularly well at the edges of primary forests, forming a rich habitat for a wide variety of plant species and animals in symbiosis with the forest area.

The kratom tree itself is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 25 metres tall. It belongs to the coffee family, and the colour of its leaf veins indicates whether its effects tend to be sedating or stimulating. A distinction is made between red and green veins, with the green ones extending into the whitish spectrum. A single tree can bear leaves with differently coloured veins depending on sun exposure and other environmental factors. Normally, young leaves have red veins that gradually become greener over time. The leaves grow up to 15 centimetres long. The kratom tree also produces flowers: small, white and arranged in a round inflorescence. These too undergo a colour transformation over time, becoming increasingly yellow and finally orange. The fruits the kratom tree eventually bears resemble small brains in appearance and are filled with seeds.

Kratom Pulver

The green powder is appearing in more and more corners of the world and has made a name for itself under terms such as Borneo, Thai or Maeng Da. Thanks to its valued properties, the kratom tree has made its way from the swampy edges of primary forests to international popularity — a development with great potential.

Due to a lack of records, no details about the historical use of the plant are known to date. In Western regions, kratom has been known since the 19th century. However, Dutch merchants may have already had experience with the stimulating leaves as early as the 17th century.
