Guarana is native to the Amazon and Orinoco. Today, the main growing country is Brazil, however it is also grown in Sri Lanka, Uruguay and throughout Central America.
Guarana is a climbing plant with whitish-yellow flowers which are about 10 meters long, the fruits themselves have a visual similarity to horse chestnuts.
Guarana has similar characteristics to coffee: it gives an energy boost, increase mental focus and diminishs appetite.
Guarana powder contains about 4.2% caffeine, as well as theophylline and theobromine. Caffeine from guarana is better absorbed by the body than that in coffee and gives a smoother, longer lasting energy boost.
You can mix the guarana powder with hot water or hot milk, add a little honey and you get a delicious hot drink.
