In South America and the Gulf Coast of Mexico dried leaves of Bay Bean were considered sacred and designed around the graves of the Mazatec and other tribes.
The dried leaves were used in ancient rituals as entheogens. In ancient Peru the fruit and the leaves had a magical use.
On the Gulf Coast of Mexico, these leaves were taken with other sacred herbs such as Calea and Tagetes.
